Description

An ultra-rare, right-hand drive, pre-merger AMG W124.

This W124 was AMG converted when new, starting with a Brilliant Silver 300E with grey leather, air-conditioning, self-levelling rear suspension, cruise control and reading lights.

The conversion entailed fitting a hand-built AMG 3.2-litre M103 straight-six, AMG suspension, Gen 1 body kit, Aero alloy wheels and AMG steering wheel. In addition, it has an additional wood kit for the interior, and that oh-so-80s heckblende joining the rear lights together.

AMG built two versions of the M103, a modified 3-litre, and this, a modified and enlarged 3.2-litre. It was essentially completely reworked with larger capacity, higher compression at 10:1, modified head and cam resulting in just over 230bhp and 234lb/ft of torque.

Supplied new by McCarthy, Mercedes dealers of Witbank, South Africa in January 1992 (built 1991) and serviced by the supplying dealer until 110k KM/2006.

Comes with all its original books/manuals in the leather wallet. The service book describes it as a ‘300E AMG’ and details both its original and subsequent AMG engine numbers.

This is an exceptionally original car in every regard.

The AMG stampings are clearly visible on the engine block. The correct decals appear on the engine and slam panel. The springs still have their AMG part decals. The body kit displays all its correct markings.

The car wears majority original paint, retaining its two-tone paint finish and amber indicators remain as intended. The AMG Aero wheels are original to the car. Inside the factory supplied Becker LeMans stereo is still in place.

Recent MoT and service. Evidence of recent work including replacement ignition components, water pump and radiator.

Having come from a dry climate, the underside is in incredible condition with zero corrosion and no evidence of accident damage. The exterior paintwork is largely original and presentable but to make perfect it would benefit from some cosmetics as the paint has some chips and blemishes. Note, we have sourced replacement jacking point covers (missing on the photos) that will come with the car.

The interior is very nice - there are no dash cracks and the instrument needles remain orange, suggesting that this car has been garaged for the majority of its life with only some light cracking to the wood trim around the gear lever gives away its 32 years.

Correct, engine-converted, pre-merger AMG Mercedes are rare and very desirable in themselves. Right-hand drive examples are vanishingly rare. A very exciting opportunity for AMG aficionados.
