Description

The Mercedes Benz 300 SE Coupé of the series W112 offered here presents itself in its very well preserved first paint - dark reddish brown. In combination with the very attractive exterior color is the interior of the almost 5 meters long luxury coupe, the original cognac-colored leather. A discreet but still clearly visible patina of the leather perfectly completes the image of the interior. This 300 SE coupe has an incomparable charm that makes you feel the almost 60 years of history. It literally feels like stepping back in time to the 60s.

The Coupé was originally delivered as a new vehicle to Belgium and was there until 16.08.1980 with a mileage of 38,334 Km in first hand. From the present owner the vehicle was acquired on 03.10.1987 with a mileage of 53.924 Km from the second owner in the Netherlands.

The interior is also like the body, the paint, the glazing, the chrome parts and the technology in a remarkably good and original condition. The car is unwelded and the underbody is immaculate as all cavities were treated with Binitrol when new. A special feature of this 300 SE is the included luggage set from Hepco, which was used to advertise the 300 SE - a picture of the original advertisement is available.

If you turn the ignition key of the coupe, the in-line six-cylinder starts without hesitation and convinces with a smooth running character. The gears of the 4-speed manual transmission are easy to engage. Driving can be described more as floating over the asphalt, thanks to the long wheelbase and the comfortable chassis.

This Mercedes Benz 300 SE Coupé W112 is in an incredible and original condition. Just the right companion for lovers of originality.

History of the series

The W 112 series is based on the virtually identical body of the W 111 series, but stands out with a large amount of chrome trim. From 1962, after the end of the 300 d "Adenauer" series (W 189), it was the only model to represent Daimler-Benz's upper luxury class for a short time. The coupés and cabriolets were technically the same as the saloons, but unlike them they had a lower roofline and no real "tail fins".

Technically, there were some differences between the W 112 and its smaller counterpart: it adopted the W 189's six-cylinder engine with mechanical intake manifold injection and 160 or later 170 hp, a four-speed automatic transmission newly developed by Mercedes, an air suspension developed with Bosch and power steering for noticeably increased comfort. This set new standards in the luxury class, but also had its price: a sedan was available from 24,500 DM as a short version, but this could quickly rise to over 40,000 DM with some special equipment.

In 1967, the production of the coupes and convertibles of the W 112 series ended, they were replaced by those of the W 111 series, which continued to be produced until 1971.
