Description

Only 98 of this beautiful coupe were built, and of those, only 12 were equipped with a sunroof, like this gem being offered here.

This car was first delivered to its owner in Munich in 1957 and has passed through a few hands over the years, all of which have expertly preserved this treasure.

Equipped with a sunroof, electric power steering, a discreetly installed DAB radio, reverse camera, and much more, this vehicle is ready to meet its new owner.

Mercedes-Benz 300 S is the sales designation for a series of coupes and cabriolets derived from the 300 sedan model. The two-door vehicles, internally referred to as the W 188, were introduced in October 1951 at the Paris Motor Show. The Mercedes-Benz 300 S had a 15 cm shorter wheelbase than the sedan chassis. With only 760 units produced, a W 188 is rarer than the famous "Gullwing" 300 SL. Throughout its production period, the W 188 was the most expensive vehicle in the Mercedes lineup. Along with the 300 sedan, these models were the last passenger cars from Daimler-Benz built on a frame (chassis). Since then, more modern car designs have featured a unibody construction (e.g., the "Ponton" models).

300 S (W 188 I):
The vehicles were available as a coupe, Cabriolet A, and roadster. They were powered by the six-cylinder engine from the W 186 sedan with a displacement of 2996 cm³, now equipped with three Solex carburetors, producing 150 hp (110 kW) and accelerating the vehicles to speeds of up to 175 km/h. From June 1952 to July 1955, 216 coupes, 203 Cabriolet A models (with lined soft tops), and 141 roadsters (with fully retractable, simple soft tops without roll bars) were produced, some with special bodywork by Pininfarina.

300 Sc (W 188 II):
In 1955, the model series was updated and renamed Mercedes-Benz 300 Sc. Chromed wheels and additional chrome trim, a single-joint swing axle at the rear, and especially a complex gasoline direct injection system, which increased the power by 25 hp, enhanced the vehicles. The rear bumper was adorned with the "Einspritzmotor" ("injection engine") badge in large letters. The new engine produced 175 hp (129 kW) and allowed a top speed of 180 km/h. From January 1956 to July 1957, 98 coupes, 49 Cabriolet A models, and 53 roadsters were built. The price was increased by 2,000 DM compared to the previous model, reaching 36,500 DM (approximately €104,000 today). (Source: Wikipedia)
