Description

Beautiful Mercedes-Benz 280 CE with the original booklets, cardex card, valuation report and lots of maintenance bills. Newly delivered in Austria and the Austrian registration with type approval is present. Has been owned by a collector and imported into the Netherlands in 2017 by the last and only Dutch owner.

The exterior looks beautiful and the metallic paint has a nice deep shine. The doors close like a safe and all seams are correct. The coupé has just been partly repainted in the original colour ‘grau-blau metallic 906’ and the quality of the paintwork is excellent. The metallic paint looks very clean with only a few signs of use. The roof still has the original paint and there it has aged slightly. It is a brilliant colour, especially when combined with the green tinted glass and beige interior. It also looks great thanks to the original crown cork alloy wheels. The interior is completely original and excellently preserved. The seats have the beloved ‘Pullman’ velour upholstery and the fabric is completely pristine with only a scuff mark on the left seat. At the time, this velour upholstery was an expensive option of a whopping DM 1,465.- and almost as expensive as leather. It was popular though, as it is nice and stiff and looks nice. The dashboard exudes classic Mercedes quality and everything works as it should. Also at extra cost was the iconic Becker Mexico radio cassette recorder with engine antenna. Both the radio and engine antenna still work perfunctorily. The original headlining looks neat, also around the electric sunroof.

Technically, this 280 is in top condition, and you notice that while driving. The last owner spent €10,800 on maintenance and had everything done that was needed. Not a car with overdue maintenance, but technically up to date. The invoices are present with the car for inspection. He also used the indoor sleeper regularly, so that is very positive. The W123 series was built for over 10 years, and despite its high purchase price and peppery extra prices for options, it was the most popular German mid-range car for many years. As any connoisseur knows, this Mercedes is the epitome of reliability, from the days when Mercedes built better cars than the competition. The unstoppable drive for quality and the very best craftsmanship ensured the proverbial German solidity back then. Very popular then as a ‘Rentner Fahrzeug’ and in recent years scarce as a coupé, especially in this condition.
