Description

With the very early models built in 1967 by Vignali, production soon moved to the Jensen Works in West Bromwich. They took advantage of Chrysler's extremely flexible 6276cc, V8 engine with power pushed through a Torqueflite automatic transmission unit and transmitted via a limited slip differential. The Series II incorporated revised front suspension, Girling brakes and a redesigned interior while the Series III, introduced in 1971, came with a 7.2 litre engine, better seats, central locking, alloy wheels and power steering. Leather upholstery, reclining front seats, and walnut veneer were all standard features with automatic transmission the choice of almost all buyers. For 1974, Jensen adopted an improved, 330bhp version of the 7.2 litre Chrysler V8 on the 'J-Series' Mk. III which also included air conditioning (that had been standard issue on the now-discontinued Interceptor SP model). The major development that year though, was the introduction of the convertible as presented here.

Built in 1975 and first registered on 1st May 1974, this left hand drive model was previously registered overseas and presents in a wonderful metallic burgundy coachwork with distinctive Interceptor alloy wheels and matching colour-coded inserts. It was purchased by our vendor in 2024 from a collector abroad and has been regularly garaged whilst used sparingly. The car itself is in good overall condition with a deep metallic finish that has seen little ill effect since its body restoration. It boasts a fine tan leather interior with black trim and has born little or no damage over the years and matches well with a relatively new high-quality traditional double-duck cotton soft top although no hoodbag. The interior also benefits from the classic sequence of dials &vents set into a walnut dashboard with an Alpine AM/FM stereo/cassette player and Nardi-style, wood-rimmed steering wheel, the rear-windows are problematic but are currently receiving attention (their operation cannot be confirmed). We are also informed that safety belt pretensioners and electric mirrors have been fitted as an option and presents correspondingly with an extremely attractive catalogue estimate.
