Description

We are very pleased to offer this very rare, UK RHD Home Market Jaguar XK150 3.8SE DHC onto the market. One of just 264 right hand drive 3.8 SE’s, this stunning older restoration was first registered on the 1st January 1960 and has had just two owners over the past 33 years. Between 1991 and 1994 the XK was subject of a total full rebuild by a Hants based Jaguar specialist Brian Stevens and receipts total over £50,000. The body was removed from the chassis and the XK then completely rebuilt from the ground up to an exceptional standard. Considering labour rates in the early 1990’s, this was huge expenditure and ensured the car was finished to the highest of standards for its owner, a classic car collector, MBE and Chairman of a fifth generation private investment office. A file of thorough invoices provide a detailed log of what was a meticulous, no-expense spared rebuild.

With the chassis stripped bare it was then sandblasted along with the back axle and bulkhead and all suspension and steering components taken to platers for cadmium plating, followed by gold passivation for post plating protection. In order to take the body to the highest of standards and avoid repairs, £17,000 of new body panels were supplied. The shell was then rebuilt and beautifully painted in Jaguar Cotswold Blue. With the chassis sandblasted, prepared and re-painted, the XK was built back up with renewed braking, suspension and steering components, and the 3.8 litre engine with S spec triple carb set up completely rebuilt, (previously bored out to 3847cc) as was the overdrive unit. The body was then re-fitted to the chassis and fitted up with renewed/replaced brightwork, new wiring loom, lighting, rubbers, trims, gaskets and many new parts to include fuel tank, fuel pump, re-conditioned radiator, heater matrix, stainless steel exhaust system, starter motor and dynamo. The interior was completely re-trimmed in Dark Blue, a new hood frame supplied and mohair hood trimmed. On completion of the rebuild, the XK150 covered around 700 miles and was maintained by its restorer ahead of being sold to the last owner in 2002.

In 2002 long established Duncan Hamilton & Co Ltd supplied the XK150 and the car was then put into more regular use. Since its impressive major rebuild the car has now covered little over 12,000 miles and has been used for touring in the UK and on occasions on the Continent. In the 20 plus years of recent ownership invoices with the car show continued impressive maintenance and various upgrades to include a hydraulic power steering conversion, high torque starter motor, Halogen headlamps, Coopercraft front and rear brake upgrade and conversion and stainless steel wire wheels. Having been placed in recent storage the XK has recently had £3000 of light re-commissioning to include rebuilding the carbs and over the past few months ahead of arriving with us has been carefully prepared, detailed and checked over to ensure its ready for regular use. YBK 742 all these years on since restoration still presents incredibly well, the chassis is excellent, the bodywork has lovely panel work and a gleaming paint finish, chrome work is still of a very high standard and the interior trim has beautifully aged. The hood, boot compartment and engine bay are all in very good order and on the road this XK150 will not disappoint. The 3.8 litre engine holds excellent oil pressure, the four speed overdrive gearbox is strong with lovely changes and with power steering and upgraded brakes the Jaguar is perfect for regular use and long distance touring.
