Description

This beautiful, superb driving Jaguar MK2 3.8 has the special provenance of being the chosen course car for the 2024 Goodwood Revival. The car was used on the track between races for members of the BARC and the Clerk of the Circuit. From Friday to Sunday the car covered many miles on track performing faultlessly. AJM 47A was manufactured on the 8th February 1963 and distributed by Henlys Limited, Manchester. This genuine MKII 3.8 with manual/overdrive transmission was supplied new by A Bernie, Queensway on the 21st February 1963 and spent its early years in Berkshire This UK supplied car spent its early life in England but was later shipped to New Zealand prior to a major rebuild that included some very desirable upgrades. The Jaguar was registered to the Founder and Chairman of Jaguar restoration Company Beacham Cars Ltd and was fully rebuilt prior to a return to the UK in December 1990. We are told the car was sold for over £57,000 in 1990 and since has covered just 15,000 miles. Many of 'the Beacham' subtle upgrades are evident to include the Jaguar XJS rack and pinion steering, electronic ignition, stainless steel exhaust system, electric fan, four pot caliper front brakes and alternator conversion. This MKII 3.8 also boasts the specially designed air-conditioning system that feeds cold air from the rear of the car.

AJM 47A is a beautifully presented older restoration that was rebuilt to an exceptionally high standard. Many years on the bodywork is first class with superb panel gaps and door fit. The panels are perfectly straight and finished with lovely Old English White paintwork. The chrome work gleams, the chrome wire wheels are smartly presented and the Michelin tyres also in excellent condition. The underside of the vehicle is top class and has been Dynax treated and protected. The Jaguar has a wonderful upholstery with stunning red leather, perfect carpets, door cards and headlining. The walnut has been re-veneered and is beautiful, the gauges all work and the car has a true feel of quality throughout. The experience of driving the car is equally impressive with beautiful light steering, efficient, sharp brakes and a firm, well maintained suspension. The 3.8 litre engine is strong, quick, responsive and holds excellent oil pressure. The all syncro gearbox is smooth and shifts in and out of gear swiftly with a lovely, light clutch. The overall ride is magnificent and does not disappoint on the road.

Since rebuild the MKII has been carefully maintained and has been in the hands of meticulous owners. We last supplied the MKII in early 2023 and carried out a major service, previous to this we last had the car back in 2015. In almost eight years of ownership from 2015-2023 the MK2 covered just 750 miles and prior to selling the car in 2015, over £3000 was spent on servicing, new rear springs, new Spax adjustable shock absorbers and new water pump and hoses. AJM 47A is a fabulous car in every respect and is not only presented in beautiful condition, it is ideal for regular use and long distance touring. The various upgrades make this car the ideal overall package and touring on the Continent would be a fantastic experience in this motor car. This car offers exceptional value considering its Beacham links and will not disappoint.
