Brand & model history:

The 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a significant model as it represents the last year of the first generation Mustang before the design was changed in 1974. For the 1973 model year, Ford introduced some cosmetic updates such as the ‘Tu-Tone’ paint on the bonnet and a wider side stripe on the body, although performance options were limited compared to earlier years due to stricter emissions regulations. The 351-4V engine was available but was not labelled as a ‘Cobra Jet’ engine, although it was referred to as such in internal Ford documents.

History & Condition:

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 Coupé offered here was manufactured in Dearborn, Michigan, in January 1973 and has been in the seller's possession since 1997. The vehicle has always been well-maintained and driven exclusively in the dry. With a mileage of 81,600 miles and a power output of 266 hp, this classic Mustang impresses with its blue metallic paint, black bonnet and matching decals.

The Mustang is equipped with a 351 cu. in. Cleveland V8 engine with a 4-barrel carburetor that was recently disassembled, cleaned and fitted with new floats and needles. In 2001, the engine was extensively overhauled, with the main bearings replaced and converted to unleaded fuel. Further work included the installation of new spark plugs and cables, a new electronic ignition and distributor as well as a new air filter. The C6 3-speed automatic gearbox ensures smooth power transmission.

The coupé has two doors and offers space for four people. The interior is made of black vinyl. Two fire extinguishers are also fitted. The forged 5-spoke aluminium wheels with BF Goodrich radial tyres (T/A 245/60 R14) are in excellent condition. An unused steel spare wheel is stored in the boot.

The vehicle currently has an English MOT until October 2024 without a list of defects. The maintenance history is partially documented, with all servicing during current ownership logged. The Mustang has been garaged for 27 years. It has a total of 11 previous owners, but comes with the original buck tag and comes with a Haynes manual and four sets of keys.

Despite its age, the vehicle starts and runs superbly with no mechanical problems. Despite its well-maintained condition, it has two stone chips on the outer door, scratches around the lock on the side door, slight cracks in the paint around the headlight, signs of age on the chrome trim as well as warped bumpers and paint damage on the outer edge of the driver's door. However, these defects are documented and do not impair the functionality of the vehicle. The driver's seat shows signs of wear and tear and the radio and heater are not functional.

Market categorisation and prices:

In terms of market value, the 1973 Mustang Mach 1 is currently valued between approximately €9,000 and €40,000 depending on condition. Additional features such as the 351-4V engine, 4-speed manual transmission, air conditioning and other options can increase the value by up to 30%.

For collectors, the 1973 Mach 1 remains a desirable vehicle as it is the last Mustang of the classic era.

Summary:

This Mustang Mach1 is a well-maintained vehicle that is waiting for its next drive.
