Description

1978 Ford Capri (MK3) 3.0 S with just 42,000 miles, a respectably low 5 previous keepers and a thick history file to support the low miles and its wonderful originality. This is clearly a very special Capri and we invite potential buyers and collectors to get in touch.

In terms of classic cars, no other manufacturer receives quite the same attention and nostalgic love as what classic Fords do. Recent years has seen Fast Fords rocket in price, desirability go through the roof and the capacity to buy the finest examples like this diminish. At the pinnacle of the Ford love affair is surely the Capri – particularly the last generation, the MK3. All these years later MK3 Capris are adored more now than ever before. As the classic ‘my dad had one of those’ cars, they are still loved by the old owners, the kids of old owners and even I’m sorry to say the grandkids of old owners.

For many a Dad in the 70s and 80s, the Capri was the ultimate choice – they were sporty, pretty cool and practical (enough). They weren’t as hardcore as the Escort or Sierra RS models and nor as drab and conventional as Cortinas or Granadas of the day and that’s why so popular up and down the country.

Here for sale we have this very early mark 3, 1978 Ford Capri with the 3.0 litre S V6 engine. The 3.0 litre was eventually phased out in 1982 for the much more common injection engine models thus making this an incredible find and very sought-after.

Finished in Cobalt Blue with Recaro seats trimmed in rare Grey/Black Carla fabric with Savannah fabric surround s and fishnet headrests, which we believe were only available on the S model. Amazing condition for the year inside and out with bodywork, interior and engine all looking extremely sharp. Complete with the iconic side stripe and S decals – very 80s indeed. Also benefitted from Envirogarde paint protection and Ziebart rustproofing treatment when new which explains the incredible condition and originality.

It was supplied new by Tricentrol Cars (Hertford) Ltd on the 21st November 1980 to a Mrs Barbara Brown for a total invoice price of £6,147. Clearly a very conscientious owner with every document, booklet and letter chronically filed. Incredibly 43 Ford invoices are supplied along with every MOT and Tax disc up to 2009 as well as neatly written owners notes, it is a sight to behold spread across two files. Every handbook, service book, leaflet and Ziebart Guarantee is contained within the Tricentrol A5 holder and all original keys are included.
Current MOT through to June 2025 even though, as an historic vehicle, it no longer requires annual testing. Runs and drives exceptionally well, just as you want it too.
