The goal was a cheap car that fit a farmer or worker’s budget, could carry a 50-liter barrel of wine, and traverse a field without breaking a basket of eggs. More than 4 million 2CVs were produced between 1948 and 1990, with final models made in Portugal using leftover parts. The 2CV's simple construction also led to adaptations like the Méhari, van variants, and kit cars such as the Burton and Lomax. Today, the 2CV remains beloved by fans, as evidenced by the thousands who gather for the biennial 2CV World Meeting.
