Description

1939 Derby Bentley 4,25 litre Park Ward sports saloon
Chassis number: B152LS
Registration Number: FEL220
Under the previous ownership for 50 years, this is a very very original car. History of another car records: Referencing the body and equipment section of B25MX’s build sheet is the notation “Dismount body from B152LS and remount on B25MX.” Thus B152LS started life as a convertible but in 1939 had the current Park Ward body fitted.
A huge file of bills far to numerous to photograph & dating back to 1961 comes with the car detailing extensive regular maintenance. As a result the car is in superb running condition starting readily & runniing sweetly. On the day of our visit the car had not run for two years, yet once a new battery was fitted it started instantly & drove beautifully on our short test drive.
The paint is without doubt very very old & has a wonderful patina of an unrestored car. It is black over a slighly unusual putty colour & presents well albeit with some age related blemishes.
To the interior is original brown leather in gernerally good order, but would benefit from being re-stitched where it has come apart in a couple of places. The door cards are lovely & compleltey original brown leather. The interior woodwork is also original & as it left Park Ward's factory.
Rarely do we get such untouched original cas coming to us & they always drive in a manner comleltey removed from those cars that have been disassembeld & totally restored. Driving this car is simply a pleasure & gives one a glimpse into what made these cars so spacial when they attained the moniker "The silent sports car." This is a preservation class car that would benefit from light conservation rather then restoration. It drives beautifully & is ready for immediate use with a strong go-anywhere feel to it.
The car is now coming to market due to the current owner relocating to Italy. It may be viewed by prior appointment in South Wales just North of Cardiff.
