Description

This very well presented, exceptional driving Healey 3000 was built on the 19th-22nd June 1959, finished in Colorado Red with Grey trim and is a matching numbers car still retaining its original engine. The Healey left the factory with wire wheels, overdrive, adjustable steering column, miles per hour speedo, and laminated windscreen. This two seater MKI Healey was built for the export market, and was sold new out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

381 UYS didn't land in the UK until 2015 when it was taken to Austin Healey specialists Bill Rawles for a professional RHD steering conversion and program of work. Arriving as a very well presented, older restoration, the Healey didn't require immediate cosmetic attention so the £13700 of expenditure was mechanical and also related to the RHD conversion. Bill Rawles supplied and fitted an aluminium RHD dashboard, RHD stainless steel throttle pedal and pedal return spring, RHD tacho cable and RHD adjustable steering box, but more serious work included rebuilding the overdrive unit, stripping the gearbox and replacing the main shaft bearing, 1st motion shaft oil seal, brass baulk rings, 1st gear hub assembly, selector spring, selector ball, needle rollers, brass gear lever bush, reverse selector shaft and 1stmotion shaft bearing. The specialists also fitted front and rear uprated shock absorbers, track rod ends, master cylinder with servo and fitted a new alternator.

We can confirm on the road this Healey is sensational, it is quite simply outstanding to drive. The engine is incredibly fit offering excellent performance and correct oil pressure, the gearbox as expected after a thorough rebuild is first class and the car is dream in terms of handling. Steering feels excellent, brakes are sharp and on the road the car will not disappoint. The bodywork is structurally excellent, the paintwork has a lovely gleam and it's only the very odd, minor paintwork imperfections (non-rust related) that remind you this is an older restoration. Chrome work is lovely, the interior very smart and carpets were replaced in 2019. The engine bay is of a very good standard, as is the boot compartment and with its last owners of five years, the 3000 MKI has been thoroughly enjoyed for shows, rallies and weekend touring. The hood and weather equipment are in good order, as are the wire wheels and the front wing stickers can be removed if desired. This is an excellent value, good quality Healey that will not disappoint.
