Description

History of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce, designed by Pininfarina, is one of the most style-defining cars of its era and still epitomises the timeless design of Italian sports cars today. The founder of the legendary coachbuilder, Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, and his team created an icon of the 1960s that captivates with its clear, curved lines and perfectly balanced proportions. This elegant convertible was first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1962 and quickly became one of the most sought-after sports cars of its time.

As a further development of the Giulietta Spider, the Giulia Spider Veloce not only brought with it a modern design, but also a more powerful engine. The 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine delivered an impressive 112 hp, which ensured exciting, dynamic driving performance thanks to the vehicle's low weight. On winding roads, the Spider showed its full potential - agile handling, precise shifting and an unrivalled connection between driver and road made it a true driver's car.

The interior of the Giulia Spider Veloce is dominated by functionality - reduced to the essentials, but with a sophistication that reflects the style of the era. The clearly structured instruments and the grippy leather steering wheel reinforce the feeling of sitting in a pure sports car. The Spider Veloce was not only a visual highlight, but also offered a driving experience that was freedom and pure driving pleasure at its best, a masterpiece of automotive history that perfectly captured the spirit of Italian driving culture through its combination of performance, style and driving experience.

Vita of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Verloce -SSC598 offered here

This convertible was first delivered in the USA and was discovered by a German collector in the late 1990s and imported to Europe. At the beginning of this millennium, the idea of restoring this Alfa Romeo matured and was finally realised by the specialists at the Alfa Classic Center (ACC) in Dortmund. In addition to a complete Nuts & Bolts restoration of the bodywork and technology, the following modifications were carried out to create an Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce Modifacta. The following work and ‘upgrades’ were carried out by ACC:

  • Rebuilt 2 litre engine from the 105 series with 40 Weber twin carburettors

  • Matching 2 litre rear axle

  • Modification of the brake system

  • Bilstein suspension with Eibach springs and 30mm lowering

  • Chassis modification ACC, installation of an additional front stabiliser bar

  • Steel rims 6 x 15 with matching tyres in 175/65/15

  • Veglia instruments completely overhauled in European configuration

  • Custom-made new colour glazing

  • New “Sonnenland” soft top with ‘colour’ rear window

  • Leather interior in black

  • Customised manifold with ANSA sports exhaust system

  • New stainless steel fuel tank

  • Two contemporary rally stopwatches

The total investment for this extravagant restoration totalled more than € 160,000 in 2016,

The performance of this Spider is simply sensational. Thanks to the modification, the new owner has around 145 hp at his disposal, which of course has an easy time with the Spider's low weight.  For the purists, it should be mentioned that the original 1.6 litre engine is still present and could be replaced if necessary.

This vehicle is still in absolute top condition today. It has been driven very little by its owner (6,328 km after the restoration) and is in our showroom without any blemishes. This Alfa has been regularly serviced at the Alfa Classic Centre in recent years. Regret-free Italian ‘Dolce-Vita’ is therefore guaranteed with this beautiful convertible.

This Alfa Romeo currently has deregistered Monegasque registration papers. Of course, copies of the German registration papers are still available, so that registration in both Germany and France can be simplified.

Summary

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce embodies the essence of Italian elegance and sophistication of the 1960s and therefore fitted perfectly into the glamorous world of Federico Fellini's iconic film ‘La Dolce Vita’. In this film, which captures the sweet life of Roman high society, the Spider Veloce becomes a symbol of freedom, luxury and the carefree lifestyle of the Italian upper class.

This Giulia remains a cult car that impresses not only with its beauty, but also with its technical sophistication and, in this case, its exceptional performance. In short, a ravishing icon awaits the friend of Italian driving culture. We, or our new sister company Scuderia Sportiva Servizio (ex Alfa Classic Centre) in Dortmund, will be happy to take care of the service and spare parts supply.
